Operations continue in an effort to stamp out crime.

Theft of copper cable
Two more arrests followed the arrest of three suspects allegedly caught stealing copper cable from a manhole on North Rand Road, Beyers Park, on September 3.

On September 9, a community member saw the suspects at the same manhole and alerted Legendary Guardians to investigate.

“Upon their arrival, the community member informed the security personnel the suspects had left the scene in a silver Ford Fiesta,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) spokesperson.

“The vehicle and its occupants were found shortly after that, where the vehicle broke down on North Rand Road.

With help from the BFS members, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the BFS and RRS spokesperson supplied information they arrested the two on charges of attempted theft, possession of suspected stolen property and

damage to essential infrastructure.”

Shoplifting
A 21-year-old was arrested at a store in Kempton Gate Mall on shoplifting charges.

Abandoned vehicles
• A white Nissan NP300 was found in the L&J informal settlement in Olifantsfontein. It was reported as hijacked in Thembisa.

• A white Audi A4 was found on Cason Road, Boksburg North. It was reported as stolen in Boksburg.

Rapid Response Services (RRS)
From September 6 to 12, units forming part of the Gauteng Rapid Response Services (RRS), including the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, arrested 78 suspects across the province.

Routine concentrated operations led to the arrest of 31 suspects on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, shoplifting, business burglary, attempted theft, possession of stolen property, rape and damage to essential infrastructure.

The team arrested 19 suspects for possession of stolen or hijacked vehicles and recovered 49 vehicles.

Further policing led to the recovery of four unlicensed firearms, accompanied by a single arrest.

Operations also led to the arrest of 27 suspects on charges of possession of drugs, intending to sell. They also confiscated heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth.
