Seniors celebrate spring’s arrival

The Eddy House residents sashayed away the winter blues.

Dressed in vibrant colours, the Eddy House residents waved winter goodbye and danced into spring with HOT 102.7 FM last week.

The station’s Hot Cares, the Dischem Foundation and Capsicum Culinary School treated the oldies to a high tea on August 30 to usher in the new season.

The tables buckled under the weight of decadent cakes and delicious snacks when the residents took their places.

Hot Cares project co-ordinator Andy Swanepoel explained that the event is the result of the radio station’s successful Teddython initiative held last year.

“The project allows corporates to pledge money, products and services, which, in turn, are used to make a difference in the lives of our listeners and local charitable organisations.

“Capsicum came on board offering their services, and we decided to use their generosity by hosting this event.”

She said they wanted to spoil the oldies again after hosting a Christmas lunch at the facility last year.

“Eddy House and its residents stole our hearts. They have spent their lives raising families and they contributed to building this country. Now it is our turn to show our appreciation,” said Jacqueline Kahlberg of the Dischem Foundation.

“We hope they realise the younger generation values their presence in our lives.”

While indulging in the various treats skilfully prepared and served by the hospitality students, Lisa Oosthuizen, the centre manager, thanked everyone involved in hosting the event.

Dusting off their dancing shoes, the residents did the twist and shimmied to some classic tunes before enjoying a game of Bingo.
