Mamohau makes her mark

“Balancing work and studies was tough, but those early experiences were crucial for my media career,” she said.

From the city of Benoni comes Mamohau Seseane, a multifaceted talent making waves as an MC, voice-over artist and model.

At just 29, Seseane is already a familiar face on 947 Radio and a prominent presenter on eTV’s The Morning Show.

She grew up in Benoni and describes her childhood as vibrant and diverse, with fond memories of hide and seek, riding her bike through the neighbourhood and celebrating Diwali and Ramadan.

“A special memory was spending time with Ouma Hettie, a dear Afrikaans lady who stepped in after my grandmother’s death and sewed clothes for the neighbourhood. We also enjoyed visits to the Bunny Park, Homestead Dam, Lakeside Mall and movies at the East Rand Mall.”

Mamohau credits her upbringing in Benoni for shaping her media career.

Watching TV presenters and using her mother’s body spray as a microphone sparked her interest in media.

“Reading newsletters as if I were giving speeches at St Columba’s Primary School, along with having books like the Encyclopedia Britannica at home and the radio always on, nurtured my love for media.”

A turning point came when she got the part of the Snow Queen in a Grade R concert at six years old.

“Watching this taped performance repeatedly inspired me to refine my skills,” she recalled.

In school, Mamohau excelled in English, speeches and activities like drama and debating, reinforcing her passion for the arts and communication.

Her mother encouraged her to be bold, leading to public speaking and drama at school.

At Stellenbosch University, Mamohau joined the campus radio station MFM92.6, which led to her first job at Kfm 94.5, doing late-night shows.

“Balancing work and studies was tough, but those early experiences were crucial for my media career,” she said.
Hosting a show on 947 is a dream come true.

“Being part of 947 is humbling. Radio is a great way to share ideas and connect with people,” Seseane said.
Joining eTV’s The Morning Show is a new adventure for her.

“I’m excited to engage with viewers and start their day positively. I want to bring unique energy and compelling stories to the show,” she said.

Her segment on The Morning Show, Know Your Rights, focuses on legal education, while her 947 radio show offers weekend support.

“I want to show that every voice matters and promote kindness and community,” she said.
Media figures like Redi Thlabi, Jenny Cryws-Williams, Oprah Winfrey and Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu inspire her.

Bonang Matheba’s presenting style also greatly influences her.

“Despite the long hours, I enjoy tea, reading, dancing, and nature, and I love going to concerts and trying new restaurants,” she said.

Her long-term goal is to make a positive impact with her career, focusing on empowering women.

She encourages young people from Benoni to embrace learning opportunities and stay focused on their passions.

“It only takes one ‘yes’ to make a difference, so stay true to your voice and pursue your dreams,” Seseane advised.
