BFS saves kidnapped man

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant when travelling on the N12.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members successfully rescued an alleged hijacking and kidnapping victim on August 27.

BFS spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin said officers were conducting routine patrols along the N12 at 19:00 when they spotted a white Toyota Corolla with its occupants acting suspiciously.

“Attempts to bring the vehicle to a stop failed, resulting in a high-speed chase towards the Putfontein off-ramp.

“The vehicle stopped on the corner of Swaziland and Limpopo River streets in Chief Albert Luthuli. Two of the occupants fled into a nearby veld.

The 28-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of hijacking and kidnapping.

“A suspect, aged 28, remained in the vehicle. Upon closer inspection, officers saw a man lying behind the driver’s seat whose head was covered with a jacket.

“This man, 43 years old, told the officers he had been hijacked on the N12 at the R50 off-ramp. He said one of the suspects fled the scene in his Mahindra pick-up while the others ordered him to get into the Corolla,” said Giblin.

“The vehicle was found abandoned in Boksburg.”

Investigations into the crime are underway, and the SAPS launched a search for the other two suspects.
