CPF – learners, beware SAPs imposters

The SAPS has launched a search for the criminals targeting school children.

Learners walking to and from school are warned to be on the lookout for would-be criminals impersonating police officers.

CPF spokesperson Stephan Lombaard confirmed that cellphone thefts were reported in Crystal Park and Northmead.

“According to information received, men posing as SAPS members approach scholars,” he said.

“They claim they are searching for a phone stolen on school premises and demand the victims produce any devices in their possession. The suspects flee the scene once the victims hand over their phones.”

Lombaard said no description of the vehicle used during the crime is available.

Anyone with information that could assist authorities in tracing the suspects is urged to call CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or share information on any of the Benoni CPF Whatsapp groups.
