Hockey teams do well at IPT

The men's U23 and ladies U21 sides clinched gold medals in their divisions.

The Gauteng East Action Hockey achieved positive results during the annual action hockey interprovincial tournament at Meyersdal Action Sports Arena in Alberton from August 7 to 11.

Five teams represented the region by competing in the mixed open, men’s open, men’s U23, ladies’ U23 and ladies’ U21 categories.

The men’s U23 team won their section and clinched the gold medals, with goalkeeper Izak van Niekerk clinching the goalie of the tournament.

The ladies’ U23 side grabbed silver medals after losing their final to the hosts Meyersdal while the ladies’ U21 team clinched the gold in their division, with Zeane Oberholzer awarded as the tournament’s most valuable player in this section.

The mixed team won the shield cup.

“Our teams performed exceptionally well,” said Benoni Action Sports (BAS) manager Christine Straussner.
