FOLLOW-UP: Veterinary care over for dog fighting pup

“Although he suffered unthinkable cruelty, Alex is a soft and loving dog.”

The day was marked by excited barking at The Animal Guardians (TAG) when Alexander the great Braveheart wagged his tail and strutted into the animal welfare organisation on August 14.

The male pit bull-cross was found abandoned on March 28 in a veld in Cloverdene after sustaining extensive injuries consistent with dog fighting.

“Alex is slowly settling into shelter life, and we are doing our utmost to help him through this transition,” said Annine Jungmann of TAG.

“He suffered severe trauma to his left cornea, which, unfortunately, led to him losing his eye. We are spending a lot of time with him as he learns to navigate his new environment.”

Despite the cruelty the pup suffered, Jungmann says Alex is a loving and gentle boy who thrives on attention.

“We thank the members of the community and TAG’s loyal supporters, who generously donated to this extraordinary animal’s care. It was a long journey, but he overcame all the odds with his brave spirit,” she said.

For more information about TAG, to adopt one of their furry friends or to help through donations, call Jungmann on 076 330 5736.
