Crime in brief

Law enforcers arrested a total of 142 suspects in the past week.

Possession of copper
A man travelling in a white Toyota Quantum was found on the N12 at Kingsway on August 13, transporting suspected stolen copper.

Law enforcers arrested him and recovered cables valued at about R6 000.

Possession of drugs
• Following up on a tip-off, Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members arrested a man travelling in a Nissan truck after finding him transporting 10 bags of dagga on August 14.

The arrest took place on the N12 at the Daveyton off-ramp.

• Two suspects were arrested on Newlands Avenue, Benoni, and at the Daveyton Hostel for possession of cocaine.
Illicit cigarettes

Two suspects were arrested on the N17 when officers found four cartons of illegally imported cigarettes in their possession.

An additional charge of bribery was added when they offered BFS officers R200 for their release.

Shooting
Officers arrested three men on August 16 at a watering hole on Ermelo Road, Springs.

It is alleged a scuffle between patrons led to a man being shot in the leg.

Law enforcers confiscated a 9mm Taurus pistol with 13 live rounds of ammunition.

Public violence
BFS officers assisted the Brakpan SAPS following an incident of public violence at 13:00 on August 17 on Goods Road, Dalview.

Officers arrested three suspects on charges of assault, drunken driving and interfering with police duties.

Vehicles recovered
• Officers found a white Toyota Dyna truck on Meyer Street, Germiston, that was reported as stolen in Midrand.

• Officers recovered a white Nissan NP200 in Teanong Section, Thembisa, that was reported as hijacked in Kwa-Thema.

• Officers found a white Isuzu in Mashimong Section, Thembisa, that was reported as hijacked in the same area.

Rapid Response Services (RRS)
RRS units, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units and the Highway Patrol, arrested 129 suspects between August 8 and 15.

Participating in routine concentrated operations across the province, officers brought 59 suspects to book.

Charges included assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, robbery, house robbery, possession of house-breaking implements, possession of car-breaking implements, domestic violence, possession of illicit cigarettes, damage to property, theft, housebreaking, intimidation, possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of endangered species.

The members recovered 59 hijacked and stolen vehicles and arrested nine for possession thereof.

Further policing led to the recovery of five unlicensed firearms and the arrest of three suspects on charges of possession.

Officers recovered heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth and arrested 58 suspects.
