Enter the Raw Battles dance challenge

First-place winner is taking home R1 000 in cash.

Mark your calendars for August 31, as the vibrant Raw Battles Dance Challenge takes centre stage at Bester Park, Zwelinzima Street, Etwatwa.

The thrilling competition, hosted by Sifiso Zwane and Lebohang Moremammele from the Raw Foundation, promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent, creativity, and cultural expression.

The dance challenge is open to young dancers aged 10 to 22, featuring solo, duet and trio categories.
According to Zwane, attendees can look forward to interludes of poetry and traditional drama, adding a rich cultural dimension to the event.

Dancers will compete for different prizes.

With an entrance fee of R20, the show aims to gather the community and celebrate the incredible talent of the youth.
The competition will unfold over four intense knockout stages, starting with 16 dancers in the first round, narrowing it down to eight, then four, and ultimately culminating in a thrilling final battle between two dancers.

Each battle has a maximum of three rounds, giving dancers the chance to showcase their skills and creativity.
After each round, a 90-second pause allows judges to deliberate before the next set begins.

“Dancers will perform on a specially designed stage, competing in pairs where one will take the red side and the other the blue. Should a tie occur, an additional ‘re-dance’ round will determine the ultimate winner. This format not only highlights the competitive spirit but also fosters camaraderie and respect among participants,” said Zwane.

Prizes are up for grabs
The stakes are high, with the winner taking home R1 000 in cash, while the runner-up will receive a stylish Raw Battles clothing hamper.
