Local runners excel at Vitality race

Gamede finished the race in 41:21 while Bubb clocked 01:31:50 for fourth place in the women's half-marathon.

David Gamede of Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) won the men’s grandmasters 10km race while Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) runner Kaitlyn Bubb clocked a top five finish in the women’s 21.1km race during the Discovery Vitality Old Eds Road Race on August 11.

Gamede averaged 04:06m/km to clock 41:21, finishing 04:28 ahead of second-placed Sontaga Mabale. Willie van Heerden completed the top three with 46:28.

Chris Mhlanga from Thembisa was the race’s overall winner after finishing in a blistering 31:31, with veteran Raphael Segodi second in 32:39.

Derocious Makhobalo of Kempton Road Runners came third – 01:36 behind Segodi.

In the main event, Bubb finished the women’s half-marathon in fourth place at 01:31:50.

Nedbank’s Faith Kiptoo breasted the tape in 01:21:34 for the win and Cornelia Joubert grabbed the runner-up spot 03:28 later. Renata Vosloo of Ubora was third in 01:25:56.

Bubb’s BNAC teammate Evangelina Thompson finished the veteran women’s race in fourth place at 01:45:28.

Nicholas Seoposengwe beat Thembisan Lucky Mohale to the men’s title. He clocked 01:06:31 for the win, with Mohale second in 01:08:44.

Kemang Khunonyana rounded up the top three 02:24 behind Mohale.

Bubb’s BNAC teammate Evangelina Thompson finished the veteran women’s race in fourth place at 01:45:28.
