BAC’s Silale to defend Daveyton Street Mile title

The Daveyton Street Mile is on August 25 at SInaba Stadium.

Last year’s winner of the women’s 10km race at the Daveyton Street Mile, Christina Silale, confirmed she will run in this year’s event on August 25 to defend her title.

The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) athlete cut the tape in 41:48 to claim victory when the race returned last September after being cancelled three times because of a lack of sponsorship and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I am definitely taking part. But I don’t think I will run as well as I did this year,” she said.

She emphasised the importance of attending such races, saying they encourage mass participation and promote a healthy lifestyle.

“These events can encourage participation and can be used to take our children away from alcohol and drugs. They also promote healthy lifestyles, especially for the young ones still in school.”

Veteran runner Lucky Mohale won the men’s 10km race in 31:35, with Donald Mashamaite second and Kwanda Longoza in third place.

Christina Silale receives her Comrades Marathon package from Karen Bradshaw of the BAC.

The Daveyton Hearts AC encourages the community to participate in the event, which features 10km, 5km and one mile (1.6km) events.

Entries are still open. To register and for more information, contact the club on 076 849 9994 or daveytonhearts1@gmail.com.
