Resident receives much-needed wheelchair

“I am so happy to receive this donation. Surely, my life will change for the better,” said Dudu Makwakwa.

Lethukuthula, an NPO based in Mayfield, recently received a generous donation of R20 000 from Germiston-based Rolfes Chemicals.

The NPO used the money to purchase an electric wheelchair for resident Dudu Makwakwa, who lives with a disability.

The much-needed wheelchair was handed over to Makwakwa on July 12 in the presence of representatives from Rolfes Chemicals and Lethukuthula.

Zuzile Ngoma, the director of Lethukuthula NPC, said, “When we approached Dudu to offer her assistance, she expressed a need for an electric wheelchair. She had been seeking assistance for five years.”

Dudu, who has been disabled for 40 years, expressed her gratitude.

“I am so happy to receive this donation. Surely, my life will change for the better. I will be more independent, allowing my son to have some time to himself. I will now be able to travel to church and move around my house with ease.”

Lucky Radzilani, an accountant at Rolfes, said they are always willing to help when approached.

“It’s a beautiful coincidence that this happened during Mandela Month. We are pleased to see the joy our assistance has brought to this family,” said Radzilani.
