Pageant winner revamps orphanage bathrooms

Zanempilo Hlatshwayo, reigning Miss Spectacular Teen South Africa, arranged a heartwarming outreach as part of Nelson Mandela Day where she revamped the bathrooms at the Simamisa Orphanage Care Centre in Kingsway.

She identified critical infrastructure issues within the centre, particularly with bathroom facilities that had fallen into disrepair from heavy use.

Simamisa Orphanage Care Centre is home to 18 children aged one to 20 and the centre is managed by Karabo Mohapi, who is following in her late mother’s footsteps.

On July 20, Zanempilo coordinated repairs to the bathroom, showers and toilet to ensure that that the children and staff at the centre can access hygienic and functional amenities.

Speaking about the event, the 16-year-old Zanempilo emphasised the importance of community solidarity and the role each person can play in uplifting others.

“We must ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the necessities and opportunities for education,” she said.

Furthermore, she recognised the challenges faced by the centre due to its high occupancy and decided to address its immediate needs by providing essential supplies such as groceries, self-care products, cleaning materials and sanitary items.

Karabo expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the assistance and invited the pageant queen to continue motivating the youngsters through continuous visits.

“In the hearts of the children and staff at the centre, as well as the broader community, Zanempilo’s visit will be remembered as a day filled with warmth, generosity and the promise of a better tomorrow.”
