Crime in brief

Operations are continuing in an attempt to stamp out crime.

Seven suspected criminals were brought to book by members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) between July 15 and 19.

• A man was arrested in Prince’s Avenue on charges of being in the country illegally.

• On July 16, a 28-year-old man was arrested at the Sundra off-ramp on the N12. The driver of a white Hyundai H100 alleged that the suspect had attempted to hijack the vehicle.

One of three suspects was arrested in Typhoon Street, Booysens, on July 16. He was found in possession of 60 cellphones which were allegedly taken during an armed robbery in in Bethal.

• A 66-year-old was arrested for shoplifting in Kempton Park, on the same day.

• Three suspects were arrested for possession of drugs. Arrests were made on North Rand Road in Kempton Park and Duduza, Extension 8. Cocaine, meth and dagga were recovered.

• Two stolen vehicles were recovered. A white Toyota Etios was found in Woodpecker Street, Mackenzie Park. It was reported as stolen in Cape Town. Further investigation led to the recovery of a grey Mercedes Benz, in Louw Avenue, Lakefield. It was reported as stolen in Mokopane.
