“We decided to focus on diabetes because it’s one of our club’s pillars of service.

Sue Opperman said she enjoyed the fun walk which took place at the Ebotse parkrun course on June 23.

“There are many people who have diabetes but are not aware of this. Untreated, it can be dangerous, which is why health awareness events such as these assist in encouraging a healthier lifestyle.”

Townsend thanked volunteers from the Benoni Northerns Sports Club who assisted with marshaling and Owen and Run Walk For Life for their support.

“All proceeds raised today will be used to service the community and will support diabetics within the community that can’t afford to buy their medication,” Townsend said.
