Crime news in brief

Investigations are continuing.

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and units falling under the SAPS Rapid Response Services (RRS) arrested 127 suspects from June 7 to 17.

Arrests
• A 37-year-old man was arrested at a filling station in Boksburg North, on June 14.
Upon his arrest, the suspect was in the process of purchasing fuel for a white Toyota Fortuner which had been reported as stolen in Edenvale.

• A 35-year-old man was arrested in Kingsway Avenue, Brakpan on charges of contriving the immigration act.

• A 20-year-old man was arrested in Dekema Road, Wadeville. He is wanted for contempt of court and malicious damage to property.

RRS
Units forming part of RRS arrested 124 suspects across Gauteng.

Concentrated operations led to the arrest of 54 suspects on charges of assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, reckless and negligent driving, domestic violence, rape, business burglary, shoplifting and contempt of court.

Fifty hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered with 14 accompanying arrests.

Further policing led to the recovery of five unlicensed firearms and 11 arrests on charges for possession.

The drug industry was also dealt a blow following the arrest of 45 suspects on charges of possession with the intent to sell.
Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.

Vehicles recovered
Two abandoned vehicles were recovered.

The vehicles, a white international truck was found on Atlas Road while a white Toyota Tazz was recovered in Ivory Park.

Both vehicles were reported as hijacked.

SAPS Sedibeng Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS)• WPSD members responded to a scene at Kwa Masiza Hostel, Sebokeng on June 14, where a badly decomposed body of an unknown man was recovered from the swamp area behind the hostel.

• A vehicle and the body of a drowning victim were recovered from a water logged ditch on the corner of Union and Victoria streets, Vereenigeng, on June 15.
