UPDATE: Family gets burial help for toddlers

Phumlani Funeral Parlour has offered their burial services to the family.

The two children who died in a shack fire while their nanny left them unattended are expected to be buried next week.

Mira Tembe (4) and her brother, Armando (3), were allegedly left in a locked shack on June 9 without adult supervision by their 45-year-old nanny who went to a local braai spot.

The woman has since appeared in court facing charges of child neglect following her arrest on the day of the incident.

According to community leader Victor Khoza, due to certain important documents which caught fire, the government mortuary is still holding onto the children’s bodies until all necessary documentation is submitted.

“We hope everything will be finalised this week so that the family can bury the children. We would like to thank Phumlani Funeral Parlour for offering their burial services to the family free of charge. We also thank community members who pledged to assist in various ways when they heard about this tragic incident,” said Khoza.

Khoza added that a group of women who are part of the Mbokodo Patrollers assisted the family by rebuilding the family’s shack.
