News from the water police

Investigations are continuing.

Members of the SAPS Gauteng Water Policing and Diving unit responded to three separate incidents across the province.

• The body of an unidentified woman was recovered in a cement canal in an open field in Vanderbijlpark on June 8. The cause of death has not yet been established.

• Members based in Tshwane assisted the K9 search and rescue unit to recover the body of a boy from Mamelodi Mahube Valley, which forms part of the Magalies mountain range, on June 9.

Eighteen boys, aged between 14 and 17, were taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries.

The youth were allegedly attending an unregistered initiation school.

The body of a 17-year-old boy was recovered on the mountain. Investigations into the matter are currently being investigated by the Cullinan SAPS.

• The body of an unknown woman, aged between 25 and 35, was recovered at Roodekrans, Roodepoort, on June 11. Foul play is suspected and investigations are currently underway.
