#Comrades2024: Mayor sends well wishes to CoE Comrades runners

The municipality will be represented by 33 athletes.

City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza wished well the municipality’s employees taking part in the Comrades Marathon at a send-off breakfast in Germiston on June 4.

The municipality will be represented by 33 athletes during the up-run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.

Xhakaza, along with MMC for Community Services Bridget Thusi, expressed their support for the runners taking part in the 97th edition of the ultramarathon.

The mayor also honoured veteran runner Edwin Makhubo, who has three Vic Clapham medals for his three finishes.

Makhubo made his debut in 2006, finishing the race in 11:32:16. The following year he clocked his Comrades PB in the down-run when crossed the line 11:31:38. He took a break for three years and returned in 2011, earning his third Vic Clapham medal after completing 11:49:33.
