Blue-light gangs continue to carry out their reign of terror in Boksburg.

The stretch of highways and main roads in the area, including the N17, are identified as a hijacking hotspot by local police.

In one of the latest incidents, the driver of a silver Volkswagen Passat was hijacked by criminals posing as police on May 1.

He told police he was driving along Main Reef Road in Boksburg when the “officers”, driving a vehicle fitted with blue lights, signalled for him to pull over.

They asked him to step out of the car as they wanted to search it, and he complied.

To his surprise, they grabbed him and tried to force him into the boot of his car. However, he managed to break free of their grasp and ran towards the nearby bushes.

The hijackers, described as two coloured and two African males, are still at large.

In another attack, a truck driver had his employer’s white Mercedes-Benz truck, laden with detergent, hijacked by criminals posing as police on the N17 near the Dalpark Toll Plaza on April 30.

He told the police that he was on the freeway when three African males driving in a “marked” police car (a sedan) approached and pointed firearms at him.

They took him to their car where they asked him what he was transporting. He told them it was laundry soap and that he was heading to Mozambique. They drove off with him in their car and later dumped him in a veld.

These incidents came hardly a week after three fake cops, believed to be part of the notorious blue-light gang, were killed in a shootout with Gauteng police on April 28 following a high-speed chase along the N3 from Grootvlei (Mpumalanga) towards Zonkizizwe in Ekurhuleni.

The wheels came off for the gang after police were tipped off about a gang that commits blue-light robberies on the N3 between Villiers and Heidelberg using a white Toyota Hilux fitted with blue lights.
