Letter: Thank you for everything you did Bob

"Any section requiring assistance or who had a need, Bob was always there to give a willing hand."

Ted Jarvis, life member of Benoni Northerns Sports Club, writes:

Long-standing Benoni Northerns Sports Club (BNSC) member Bob Foster died on February 28.

Bob joined in 1980 and immediately became involved in the hockey section, which comprised some 20 teams.
He then became involved in the affairs and the building of the club into what it is today.

Much of the plans and design featured the involvement of Bob, even down to the design and repair of the bar stools. Bob was always there to give a willing hand.

He served for many years on the club’s executive committee, as well as the hockey and the social section committees, the latter of which he was chairperson for some years.

Bob was well-known in the wider sporting fraternity and was a hockey umpire for many years.

Apart from his involvement at Northerns, he and his wife, Erica, were much involved in the scouting movement in Benoni.

In 1993, Bob was awarded life membership of the BNSC, the most prestigious award any member can achieve. He was also awarded clubman of the year when it was introduced.

In the main bar where the history of the club is portrayed, a corner has been allocated to his memory and to acknowledge his contribution.

It has been named the Bob Foster Corner with his photo proudly displayed to preserve his memory in the annals of Northerns.

Bob deserves this honour, it is where he was at home at Northerns surrounded by his friends.

Thank you for the wonderful memories, the friendship and all you did for your Benoni Northerns.

You will be missed but not forgotten.

RIP, Bob Foster.
