Pro footballer inspires club’s players

“Stanley’s visit provided a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our players to learn from one of the best in the game.”

Chippa United and Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali told the Future of Africa FC players that hard work and discipline are crucial to forging a successful football career.

Nwabali visited the Boksburg-based club on February 23 to share his journey in the sport, from his days in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) to now the DStv Premiership.

The shot-stopper played a key role for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last month in Ivory Coast, conceding only four goals in seven matches to guide Nigeria to the final, where they lost 2-1 to the hosts.

The 27-year-old also won the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final against South Africa when he saved two penalties in the shoot-out after both teams played to a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time.

“Stanley’s visit provided a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our players to learn from one of the best in the game. His insights, experiences and words of wisdom inspired our players to strive for excellence and pursue their football dreams with passion and determination,” said club chairperson Mohammed Lawal.

“His presence on the field was electric, igniting a sense of excitement and motivation among everyone present. We were honoured to host him at the club.”

Lawal said Nwabali’s visit enriched the players’ lives and reinforced the club’s commitment to providing them with opportunities to learn from football legends.

“His visit has left an indelible mark on our club and will continue to motivate our players to strive for greatness on and off the field,” added Lawal.
