Investigations into all cases are continuing.

Rapid Response Services (RRS)
From February 16 to 22, RRS units arrested 91 suspects, and recovered 35 vehicles and seven unlicensed firearms.

Members of the Flying Squad, Highway Patrol and K9 units participated in various concentrated operations throughout the province.

Forty-seven arrests were made on charges of assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm, possession of vehicle break-in implements, robbery, damage to property, housebreaking, theft, possession of suspected stolen vehicles as well as property, bribery, murder, possession of unlicensed ammunition and rape.

During the blitz 35 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered with eight arrests, for being in possession of these vehicles.

Seven unlicensed firearms were recovered with 11 accompanying arrests.

A further 25 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.

SAPS Gauteng Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS)
WPDS units were deployed to three separate incidents of suspected drownings from February 16 to 22.

Two bodies were recovered.

• February 18
Members from Sedibeng responded to a call of a body floating in the Klip River, Meyerton.
The body of an unknown man was recovered and investigations into his death are currently underway.

• February 20
Tshwane WPDS members were deployed to Olievenhoutbosch following severe thundershowers.

It was alleged that a man was trapped in a river.

“Due to severe conditions the unit’s deployment was delayed, however later reports confirmed that the victim was able to safely reach the river bank, once the water levels subsided,” said Benoni Flying Squad spokesperson, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin.

• February 21
Units from Ekurhuleni were deployed to Knights, Primrose where a badly decomposed body was removed from a stream flowing through the mine dumps and informal settlement.

An inquest docket has been opened.
