Actonville Spurs beat Benoni Northerns

Spurs are second on the log with nine wins and one loss from 10 matches.

Actonville Spurs won their ninth Premier League match and cemented their second-place spot on the log after beating Benoni Northerns by 200 runs at the Northerns main oval on February 25.

Batting first after losing the toss, Spurs posted a competitive 291 after some brilliant batting by Faizal Khan and good knocks from Shaveer Khan and Sabelo Mabanga.

Faizal Khalia played a crucial role with the bat, scoring a brilliant 126 off 114, which included 17 boundaries and four maximums. He shared 153 for the fourth wicket with Khan before being dismissed by Warren Minnaar in the 42nd over but forfeited his century after he fell to Mekyle Pillay on 84 off 99 while opening batsman Mabanga laid a solid foundation upfront with his 42 runs.

Pillay took three wickets for the hosts, while Matthew Wittstock, Divan Pretorius and Minnaar assisted with two scalps each.

Northerns’ chase began on the backfoot after losing four wickets inside the first 10 overs. Provincial player Aron Visser (7 off 9) was the first to depart when he was trapped by Amaan Khan in the third over.

Riaan van der Merwe and Jarod Miller began to build the innings steadily, but Van der Merwe was run out for 10 by Khalia, and Zuber Turky made matters worse for the hosts after removing Miller (24 off 28) and Pillay for a two-ball duck in the 10th over.

Kaylan Archary grabbed Actonville’s fifth after Minnaar edged him to Mabanga behind, and Turky got his third wicket of the day when he dispatched Tristan Eley in the 18th over.

Archary got rid of Kabelo Sekhukhune, Adrian de Vries and Pretorius to end with four wickets, and Wilbur van Dyk caught and bowled Wittstock to dismiss their hosts for 91, winning the match inside 24.3 overs.

Northerns are sixth on the table with six wins and four losses in 11 matches, while Actonville have won nine and lost once in 10 matches.
