Eastern Storm beat Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga only managed 60/7 to lose the match by 76 runs.

Opening batter Mpumi Mashiloane scored an unbeaten half-century to help Eastern Storm women to a 76-run victory over Mpumalanga in a CSA women’s T20 division two encounter at Willowmoore Park on February 25.

Mashiloane led from the front as she scored 52 off 59, including six boundaries to help the Storm to 136/4 in their 20 overs.

After being sent out to bat by Mpumalanga captain Jessica Stauble after winning the toss, the right-hander shared an opening stand of 41 with Alysia Rudolph (20) before Rudolph was bowled by Chris-Mari Bezuidenhout in the eighth over.

Captain Kayleigh Craig didn’t stay long at the crease after being run-out on seven by Jennifer Hall in the ninth over and Tamzyn Hartman followed her skipper to the shed in the 13th over having added only three runs to the scoreboard.

Tenique Williams scored a neat 20 runs, which included a single four and a maximum, before falling to Bezuidenhout.

Sabelo Jiyane added a quick 18 off 13 in the last three overs to take her team to a competitive score.

In response, the visitors’ chase began on the backfoot after losing two wickets inside the power-play. Koketso Mhlanga was the first to depart when she was run-out by Craig in the fifth over while Rudolph removed Refilwe Mawela for three with the fifth ball of the sixth over, reducing Mpumalanga to 15/2.

Things got worse as Hall fell to Simone Botha in the following over. Botha pitched it outside off and the right-hander tried to drive it but instead sent the ball straight to Rudolph at cover.

Robyn Dorhmel followed Hall to the change-room after falling to Thando Zulu while Ashleigh Van Wyk dismissed Bezuidenhout in the 12th over.
