Ndaba will now lead Daveyton SAPS

The Brakpan resident said he is looking forward to working closely with community members and stakeholders.

Daveyton Police Station is under the helm of a new station commander.

Colonel Khumbulani Ndaba took up the reins on January 11, following the retirement of Colonel Kesavan Nengal Chittiah.

Ndaba was formerly a Vispol commander at Benoni SAPS (from 2020 to 2023), a Visible Policing commander at Boksburg SAPS for 15 years and worked for the Public Order Police Unit.

Boasting 33 years of service in the SAPS, Ndaba said he was ready to combat crime in the Daveyton precinct.

His plan of action is to deal with some of the serious crimes, such as murder, house robberies and assault GBH.

“Hijacking in Daveyton is not very prevalent. However, we have recorded numerous hijackings at home driveways, primarily during load-shedding or late at night.

“Other challenges include bodies and abandoned stolen vehicles discovered on construction sites. “Some murders in the area emanate from turf wars between illegal miners.

“Criminals are also targeting churches that operate in open fields,” said Ndaba.

The Brakpan resident said he has so far noticed the reluctance of residents to share information relating to crime.

“In our efforts to forge partnerships with the community, we have organised community meetings to restore and win the trust of residents, so that they can rely upon information from the police to assist in fighting crime.

“We are also working with the pastor forums because they have a big influence on the community.”

The police station has also intensified operations every week in some hotspot areas such as Chris Hani, Gabon, Mkhalazenke and Siya’hlala la.

Working with EMPD and security companies, they conduct roadblocks and vehicle control points at the N12.

Ndaba said they are continuing to maintain a good working partnership with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) as they usually sit with them during Monday meetings to provide inputs.

New constables

The station welcomed 17 newly trained police officers who will assist in bolstering crime prevention efforts. The new Daveyton SAPS leader said he is looking forward to working closely with community members and all stakeholders. Contact the new station commander on 082 411 6122.
