Crime round-up

The six suspects will be appearing in court soon.

Warning
Benoni CPF has issued a warning to motorists to be vigilant when at carwashes. A Toyota Land Cruiser was recently stolen from a carwash in Bonaero Park after the owner handed the vehicle’s keys to a person claiming to be the owner.

“Two similar incidents were reported in the past week in Brentwood Park and Rhodesfield. Fortunately, the attendants refused and thereby foiled the attempted thefts,” said Stephan Lombard, of Benoni CPF Sector 2.

“In both instances, the targeted vehicles were high-end 4x4s.

“We urge customers to ensure attendants do not hand keys to anyone other than the legal owners of the vehicle.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS)
From February 14 to 18, members of BFS arrested two suspects and recovered an abandoned vehicle.

Following up on information, Sergeant Jaco Powell arrested a 36-year-old man wanted in connection with a house robbery.

A member of the community identified the man on the corner of Voortrekker and Station roads, Brakpan.

Further policing led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man in Pendoring Street, Dalpark.

He was found in possession of four lengths of suspected stolen copper cables.

Suspected vehicle thieves nabbed
Speedy response from local security and vehicle tracking companies and members of the Benoni CPF led to the arrest of four suspected vehicle thieves, on February 16.

According to information, the occupants of a white Volkswagen T-Cross were spotted attempting to steal a vehicle.

A description and registration number were promptly sent to CPF, ensuring that the details were entered in the Automatic Number Plate Recognition system (ANPR) and issued a priority one lookout to all stakeholders.

The vehicle was flagged shortly afterwards and as it entered Boksburg ad units were dispatched.

“A high-speed chase ensued, which resulted in the vehicle losing its back wheel,” read the statement issued on the CPF Facebook page.

“The occupants were arrested in Jet Park.”

The statement continued by saying the arrest is a testament to invaluable partnerships between law enforcement and the private security sector.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to GVS Tactical, Legendary Guardians, Badboyz Security, Black Hawk Tactical, NoJack, SecureDot Technology, Afriforum and Dot Towing.”
