Old Bens juniors claim derby bragging rights

“The derby is always a big one and I am happy to beat them at home as we haven’t been able to for the past few years. ”

The Old Bens U8 Impalas beat Benoni Northerns U8 juniors by 16 runs in their exciting and much-anticipated derby clash on February 10 at Old Bens Sports Club.

The youngsters avenged their first-round loss after Northerns drew first blood at home earlier this season.

Bens scored 112/6 in their innings and Northerns only managed 96/6 as the home side avenged their loss earlier in the season.

Zach Prinsloo (18 runs) and Lennad Erasmus (17 runs) top-scored for Old Bens while Mason Mynhardt (2/2), Prinsloo (1/6) and Levi Barnard (1/7) starred with the ball.

Northens’ Nixon Grobler led the charts for the visitors with 19 runs while teammate Owen Howard scored 12 runs. Jonathan Zuppa (1/9) and Grobler (1/13) were the visitors’ pick of the bowlers.

Old Bens coach Justin Barnard said that he was proud of the heart and passion shared by his players.

“The derby is always a big one and I am happy to beat them at home as we haven’t been able to for the past few years,” said Barnard.
