News from the flying squad

Investigations into all cases are continuing.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), Rapid Response Services (RRS) and South African Police Service Gauteng Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS) had their boots on the ground from February 2 to 8, bringing criminals to book and assisting with suspected drownings.

According to information supplied by unit spokesperson Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, three arrests were made, while WPDS members recovered three bodies across the province.

Possession of drugs
Three suspects were arrested in separate incidents on charges of being in possession of drugs, with the intent to sell.

Dagga was recovered in Ivory Park Ext 2, while meth was seized in Northdene Avenue, Brakpan.

Vehicle recovered
A white Nissan NP200 was found in Elands Street, Elandsfontein. It was reported as stolen following a house robbery in Bedfordview.

Bodies recovered
• February 4: The body of an unknown male, believed to be in his 50’s, was found floating in the water at a golf course in Parkview.

• February 6: The body of an unknown man was recovered from a quarry in Muldersdrift.

• February 8: Members were deployed to the N1 south, Sefako Makgato and Stormvoel roads where WPDS members recovered the body of a man hanging from a branch across the river. Initial investigations indicated that the victim had committed suicide.
