Ashton learners shine at inter-high champs

Alisha Barcelos and Ryan Ferreira won two gold medals as Ashton International College athletes broke eight records during the SISA inter-high championship at Boksburg Stadium on January 23.

Barcelos first won the U19 girls’ 100m dash in a record-breaking 13.15 seconds and also clocked 27.82 to set a new milestone in the 200m race in the same category.

Ferreira grabbed the gold in the U19 boys’ 400m one-lap dash in a record-breaking time of 52.19 seconds. He also won the gold in the two-lapper 800m race in another record time of 02:08.

Kayla de Wet won the U19 girls’ 800m race in 3:00 and Lara Ferreira claimed the gold in the same distance but in the U17 girls’ category, after clocking 2:43.

Owen Dalzell and Anri Hattingh added to the school’s tally with two more golds in the field events.

Dalzell won the boy’s U17 javelin, throwing 50.44m for the win and Hattingh threw 08.58m to win the girl’s U17 shot put.
