Sunman, a 21-year-old Appaloosa from Criss-Cross Stables in Benoni AH, has been diagnosed with insidious and chronic forms of Equine Recurrent Uveities (ERU) in his left and right eyes.

The horse also has glaucoma in its left eye.

Described as a horse with a heart of gold, owner Laura Hibbit needs to raise around R60 000 for Sunman’s surgery in both eyes.

According to Laura, the left eye needs to be removed while the right eye needs an implant.

Sunman has Equine Recurrent Uveities in both his eyes.

“Two years ago, we had two vets misdiagnose him. They claimed he just had an infection. We took him to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Hospital six months ago and again three months ago.

“After the tests, it was advised that he needed the double surgery,” said Hibbit.

“Sunmanis is the kindest horse you will ever meet. He has taught numerous people how to ride. His current rider is a two-year old girl.”
