Theft of bakkie a big loss for SPCA

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele confirmed that a case of theft of motor vehicle was opened.

The Benoni SPCA suffered a blow after one of its vehicles was stolen on Railway Avenue in the early hours of January 26.

According to manager Jacques Cronje, the society’s NP200 Nissan was stolen at the inspector’s home at around 04:00.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele confirmed that a case of theft of motor vehicle was opened.

“It is reported that the complainant was sleeping when he received a call from his manager alerting him that their tracking company picked up that the vehicle was in Thembisa. When he went to check he discovered that the vehicle was missing.”

Sekele said the vehicle’s last location was Thembisa.

Cronje said the theft of the bakkie is a setback for the animal welfare organisation.

“Every piece of equipment we own is vital for us to fulfil our mandate of preventing cruelty to animals. Without a bakkie, Thomas cannot carry out his work. The bakkie was insured but we are going to be hard-pressed to replace it for the sum insured,” said Cronje.

The society is calling on the public to assist in locating the bakkie (registration number DK 89 WB GP).

The organisation is raising funds to buy a new bakkie. To assist in any way, contact Benoni SPCA on 011 894 2814.
