Hot 1027 FM treated the residents of the Eddy House Retirement Village to a delicious Christmas lunch, sumptuous goodies and lively entertainment during the radio station’s toy run on December 16.
Dressed to the nines, the residents rolled back the years as they jammed to golden oldies, and posed for photos in a styled booth while they were enthralled by tricks from magician, Peter Nasser.
The seniors also had an opportunity to de-stress as their furry friends from Top Dogs provided more than a shoulder to cry on. The Ferrari Club took some for a spin around the block in different models of the Italian supercar.
According to Hot 1027 founder and managing director, Lloyd Madurai, this was part of the station’s CSI project, Hot Cares.
“We get to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us. We help people every week, but during Christmas, we do something special.
“It’s part of our toy run 2023 where we decided to come to Eddy House and spend time with their retirees who made such a meaningful contribution over many years and show them our gratitude,” said Madurai.
With some on-air personalities, including his wife Shona and Peter Ndoro, Madurai went from table to table, shaking hands with the retirees before joining his staff as they dished a roast lunch for the seniors.
“The retirees are very important because they have contributed to society over many years. We felt their families may not be here and especially with high suicide rates and depression, it was important to show them love and that somebody cares for them,” he said.
Head of Hot Cares, Carmen Rocha, shared Madurai’s sentiments, adding one of their pillars is giving back to the community.
“We always get several requests and the residents of Eddy House showed an interest in having a lovely function. It is the one day in a year the seniors look forward to.
“What touched our hearts is that at some point they were doctors, teachers and community leaders. When they retire, it doesn’t mean they no longer exist. They need to be spoilt and shown we appreciate everything they have done in their lifetime,” she said.
Madurai thanked Benonians for supporting his radio station, saying “a large percentage of our audience, which we are grateful for, comes from Benoni”.
