SAPS urges united action against GBV

Various organisations such as the Men’s Forum, Kids Haven, Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) and many more attended the informative campaign.

The Actonville SAPS has emphasised the need for community members to take immediate action against the pervasive scourge of GBV in the community.

This was revealed during the station’s 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign held on December 8 at Rakele Park in Wattville.

Representatives from organisations such as the Men’s Forum, Kids Haven, the Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), Izwelonke, Izimbokodo Women’s Organisation, Hostel Izinduna, GBV Brigades, Youth Desk, patrollers, community safety, faith-based organisations and community members attended.

Speaking to attendees, Actonville SAPS Social Crime Prevention co-ordinator Constable Valencia Lekgau urged residents to protect and love one another.

“Let’s all work together to fight GBV by reporting GBV-related matters even though you are not affected directly. We also plead with complainants who open cases at the police station not to withdraw them when you feel like it,” said Lekgau.

She encouraged men abused by their partners to report domestic violence despite the social stigma.
