Police operation brings 43 to book

Concentrated operations will continue throughout the festive season

Members of the Benoni Police Station along with other stakeholders arrested 43 people during a high-density operation on December 2.

Under the guidance of Benoni SAPS station commander Brigadier Sudesh Sookraj and Vispol district coordinator Colonel Trevor Pubalakan, members of SAPS central and north, immigration officers, EMPD, national traffic, CPF, community safety, National Crime Intelligence, environmental health and private security companies, including No Jack and Black Hawk kicked off its festive crime prevention activities throughout the Benoni precinct.

Following a parade and briefing at Willowmore Park Cricket Stadium at 17:00, officers were deployed to conduct operations within the CBD while a concentrated roadblock was set up in Kingsway.

“The operation yielded great successes, sending a clear message to criminals that we will not let our streets be run by lawless criminals,” said Sookraj.

“This is one of many activities that will be undertaken throughout the festive season in an effort to ensure our community’s safety.”

Through tracking and tracing, members of the police station’s detective branch arrested eight suspects wanted in connection with rape, assault, theft, business burglary, and contravention of the Credit Act.

During the same time, 11 traffic fines to the value of R8 600 were issued.

Nineteen motorists were arrested for drunken driving, while 14 illegal immigrants were handed over to immigration officers.

Three illegal shebeens were also closed during the blitz and two suspects were brought to book on charges of being in possession of drugs.
