BFS brings seven to book

Operations will be beefed up throughout the festive season.

Seven suspects have been brought to book by members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), from November 20 to 27:

Motorcycles recovered
On November 20, BFS members responded to information from a local vehicle tracking company that two stolen motorcycles were suspected to be located around Actonville.

“Officers were deployed with their search leading them to a shack within the Emandleni informal settlement,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“Inside a 35-year-old man was found with the bikes, which had been reported as stolen in Brakpan.”

Dye stained money
While conducting routine patrols in Thembisa on November 22, officers received information of suspects at a home in Isithama Section, busy washing suspected stolen money.

“Two suspects were caught red-handed with further information leading to the arrest of another, who was found in possession of a stained note,” said Giblin.

“During the arrest, one of the suspects received a call from a fourth suspect and a sting operation was arranged.

Two suspects were caught trying to wash the money while the remaining three were found in possession of dye stained money.

“Two suspects arrived at the designated meeting place, driving a white Toyota Quantum, but upon seeing BFS officers, they fled the scene.”

Giblin said that officers managed to corner the vehicle whereupon the suspects attempted to flee on foot.

“They were both apprehended and a total of R60 000 was recovered,” he said.

The five suspects will appear in court soon.

Possession of drugs
A 24-year-old man was arrested on November 27, on the N12, on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of drugs.

“At 23:00 patrolling officers attempted to bring a white BMW to a stop to conduct routine stop-and-search operations,” said Gilbin.

“The driver refused to stop and with the assistance of Highway Patrol he was brought to a stop at the Daveyton off-ramp. The driver was intoxicated and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 12 Mandrax tablets.”
