Benoni sailor crowned laser masters champion

The annual event saw seven races on both days with sailors from around Gauteng and some from KZN compete for the top spot.

Grant Caroline was crowned the Gauteng Laser Masters Sailing Regatta winner at Homestead Dam on November 18 and 19.

With impeccable weather and lighter wind to contest with, the Benoni Sailing Club member beat 24 other sailors to the provincial crown.

The Pretoria Sailing Club veteran Leon de Raay, who won the Benoni Sailing Club’s annual open regatta in February, was in second place while Shellee Nel, from Victoria Lake Club, finished third.

The annual event saw seven races on both days with sailors from around Gauteng and some from KZN competing for the top spot.

“The Laser is an Olympic-class dinghy and is sailed all over the world. The wind was lighter this weekend. Seven races were sailed in the two-day event.

“It was a wonderful event. There are many more events coming up throughout the next year and the sailors are looking forward to it,” said Benoni Sailing Club commodore, Dudley Thomson.
