Northerns to bring festive cheer to Benoni Child Welfare

The club members will run 10km in 10 consecutive days from November 30 to December 9 to collect items for Benoni Child Welfare.

The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) will again push boundaries when its members hit the road for the sixth annual 10×10 challenge on November 30.

The runners will complete 10km in 10 consecutive days from November 30 to December 9 to collect non-perishable items, toiletries and stationery for the Benoni Child Welfare for the festive season.

“The Benoni Child Welfare relies heavily on the support and donations it gets from the community to care for the children and to continue operating,” said BNAC administrator Kerry Webb.

“We collect non-perishable food and toiletries and school stationery for the children. With 10km every day for 10 days, it is a challenge for our members to get up every day and run the cause.”

In its fifth year, the challenge experienced a massive growth in participation since the runners took to the road in 2018.

“While some members only do part of the 10×10, there are a lot of runners who do every single run. It can be tiring, and some days you don’t feel like getting up to run again but getting to the 10th day is extremely rewarding.

“The run to the child welfare is always a highlight because we encourage members to dress up in Christmas attire and bring their family members. We often have children on bikes cycling along with us to the child welfare where the children throw powder paint us, which they love very much,” she said.

Community members, who want to donate, may bring their items on the 10th day (December 9) to the Benoni Northerns Sports Club on 1 Brodigan Street, Northmead.

The club members will hand over the items to child welfare on December 9.
