The Dragon Warrior Karate Academy chief instructor sensei Steve Ormandy expressed his satisfaction with his students’ performance during the Tenshinkan Karate SA National Championships at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre on October 28.
The students dominated the national champs after achieving 24 medals out of a possible 26, with 12 gold, eight silver and four bronze medals.
Ormandy said it was rewarding for him and his fellow trainer, Tyler Ormandy, to see the karatekas achieve so much after their hard work and sweat in the dojo.
“As a sensei, the biggest reward is to see the progress of our students. When they come here, they’ve got no clue about the different techniques. But the way their co-ordination and confidence grow and self-belief is enhanced by karate is so much better,” he said.
A total of the club’s 12 karatekas were declared national champions in different categories. The sensei said he was extremely proud of this achievement, adding that they competed with pride.
“The biggest reward is to see the smiles on their faces. It’s priceless.”
