New SPCA manager ‘here to stay’

The new manager has pledged to remain loyal to animals.

The new general manager of Benoni SPCA, Jacques Cronje, said he is here to stay and looks forward to serving the organisation for many years to come.

Over the past two years, the organisation has had to deal with the resignation of managers, the most recent being Darryn Potgieter.

Cronje took over from Potgieter on September 11.

Originally from Rustenburg, Cronje now lives in Rynfield with his fiancé, Monja, two Pomeranians, an Africanis and a cat.

He said he has adjusted well to the new town and environment.

“People here are much friendlier than in Rustenburg. For the few months that we’ve been here, it’s been heart-warming to witness the community opening up and being helpful. It is a blessing to see the community behind the Benoni SPCA.”

Cronje was previously involved with the Rustenburg SPCA as a volunteer and as part of the committee.

“When I learnt about the vacant post in Benoni, I was eager to apply. I love working with animals and know what the SPCA is about and what it stands for. The SPCA has always been close to my heart – since high school days,” said Cronje.

With big plans and strategies up his sleeve, Cronje said he wants to continue the SPCA’s culture of performance and excellence.

“I will serve the community and keep up the good work the SPCA has done over the past 75 years. I’m also fortunate to be working with the best team. They have been accommodating and patient with me; I’m learning from them every day.

“Each day has challenges, as we deal with a lot of emotions with the animals in our care. It always pleasing when animals get homed. We will focus more on outreaches and educating the public about animal welfare.”

Cronje is working towards completing an inspectorate and animal welfare assistance courses to enhance his knowledge.

His message to the Benoni community is: “In the world that you can be anything, just be kind – be kind to humans and animals.” Contact Benoni SPCA on 011 894 2814.
