SPCAs save cows after trailer accident
When members of the Benoni SPCA arrived at the scene, they found the cattle trapped in the trailer.
A swift response by members of the Benoni and Brakpan SPCAs saved the lives of four cows after a cattle trailer carrying six of the animals overturned on Heidelburg Road at about 08:00 on October 23.
According to Benoni SPCA manager Jacques Cronje, when the team arrived at the scene, they found the trailer had come loose from the vehicle and had overturned on the centre median, trapping the cattle.
“We immediately sprang into action and started to free the cattle. We were able to save four but, unfortunately, due to their severe injuries, two had to be humanly euthanised on the scene,” said Cronje.
