Help Keown attend European and world championships

He has qualified to compete in the 14th European Championships and World Championships in America.

Young Rynfield golfer Keown Botha has qualified for next year’s US Kids Golf European Championships and World Championships.

The youngster will start at the 14th European Championships at Winterfield Golf Course in Scotland in May before travelling across the Atlantic to compete in the World Championships in August at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina in the USA.

The Laerskool Northmead learner will work at bettering his fourth-place finish attained during the Euros at the Longniddry Golf Course in Scotland in May while hoping to add the world title to his vast collection of achievements.

To attend both these tournaments, Keown needs the help of the community. His family is selling raffle tickets for R100 to raise funds for the golfer to travel to Scotland and the USA.

The raffle winner will stand a chance to win a Signature II 6 Outback Braai stand worth R5 500.

“These international competitions are necessary for Keown’s development as a local and international golfer. This is great exposure for him to not only compete with the best golfers in the world but to get to know various cultures, trends and golfing lifestyles,” said Keown’s father, Nico.

The seven-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season this year. He became the first South African to win the US Kids Venice Open title when he beat Swiss Alexander Heuberger and Matias Lapustas in a three-way play-off on the first hole with a 22-foot birdie putt for the top prize.

The win moved Keown closer to the US Golf Kids Priority Status.

The young golfer’s CV also includes bagging last year’s Gauteng Local Tour title and placing third in the Big Five South Africa Open.

“The competitions help him in his overall growth and will help him in his quest to become a top South African golfer. It also allows for unity and friendship among people from diverse backgrounds,” added Nico.
