DNA results confirm burnt body is that of Crystal Park police officer

His memorial service took place in Crystal Park on October 19.

Police have confirmed that the body found in a burnt-out vehicle belonging to a Crystal Park police officer in Kliprivier last month was that of its owner, Detective Sergeant Dumisani Solomon Mtshali.

The body was found burnt out on the backseat by police officers in Kliprivier on September 24.

According to Ekurhuleni district communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela, DNA results received on October 17 confirmed that the body is that of Mtshali.

He had left his home in Crystal Park on September 24 at about 17:00 in his personal vehicle, a white BMW, to visit family in Delmas, Mpumalanga.

Sekgobela said the police officer was scheduled to attend a detective learning course at Hammanskraal SAPS Academy after the long weekend.

“When his colleagues went to his address to collect him as per transport arrangements, he was not there. His cellphones were off and his family in Delmas confirmed that he never arrived,” said Sekgobela.

She added that a search was conducted in his apartment and police found a neatly packed bag containing Mtshali’s clothing and police uniform on his bed.

Sekgobela said a case of murder will be opened at Kliprivier Police Station.

His memorial service took place in Crystal Park on October 19.
