LETTER: Thank you for your kindness

Email your Letter to the Editor to benonicitytimes@caxton.co.za.

Cynthia van Schalkwyk, Benoni, writes:
My husband and I were doing our weekly shopping and popped into Woolworths at Rynfield Square on October 15.

Unfortunately, my husband, who often experience seizures, had several while in the store.

The assistance and compassion shown to my husband and I was absolutely amazing.

Customers and staff rallied around, doing whatever they could to calm him down and to ensure he was safe from injury.

Having left both cellphones at home I was not able to call our son-in-law, so two customers offered the use of their phones while another offered to take him home.

I asked for a wheelchair which was promptly brought to us and the staff helped settle him on the chair and prevented him from sliding off.

The manageress, Nelia, was an absolute angel. She brought me a wet cloth and gave me a bottle of water, as I was exasperated and parched.

A gentle lady assisted in stroking his arms and hands while another spoke kindly to him, assuring him that all be fine.

We are both pensioners and I honestly felt as though all these people treated us like their own family.

As my husband has no memory of the event and not able to relay his thanks, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude for everyone’s kindness and compassion.

There are still many wonderful human beings amongst us.
