Plenty of cricket action on the way

The venue will host a number of provincial and international cricket matches from next month.

Ekurhuleni cricket fans should brace themselves for a bumper cricket season at Willowmoore Park.

The season culminated with the Eastern Storm competing in the CSA division two one-day cup and Momentum Proteas invitational against New Zealand in September.

The addition of international matches to the schedule created an exciting atmosphere, as the Bangladesh Women will host their camp at the venue before playing the Momentum Proteas in a T20I and ODI series.

The Eastern Cricket Union CEO, Wesley Coulentianos said Willowmoore Park braced themselves for a massive influx of events and activities over the next six months.

“We are excited by these events and hope this constant exposure on both international and domestic scales will help reinvigorate Willowmoore Park, firmly placing it back on the map for spectators and helping to attract sponsors and companies wishing to advertise.”

The CEO said he hopes this packed schedule will help get fans to flock to the venue, adding that they are working hard to bring the love for the sport back in the region.

The former cricketer said the union is still looking for sponsors and has invited local businesses to place advertisements on the advertising boards inside the venue.

Local businesses are urged to place ads on the advertising boards surrounding the Willowmoore Park pitch.

“The advertising boards cost R12 000 per year and for if you would like to sponsor us, the sponsorship amounts start from R25 000,” he said.

From next month, Willowmoore Park will host a variety of competitions including the CSA women’s provincial one-day cup, in which the Eastern Storm ladies will compete, South Africa A vs West Indies A and the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket camp.

The Momentum Proteas will host the first match of its three T20I series against Bangladesh on December 3. They will face the same opposition on December 23 in the third ODI of their three-match series.

The Eastern Storm ladies will play in the CSA Women’s Provincial one-day cup at Willowmoore Park.

From January, the venue will host the Storm men’s and women’s teams in the CSA division two four-day series, the women’s provincial one-day cup and the division two men’s T20 Knock-out Cup in March and the Johnson Crane Marathon.

The Eastern Colts will also host the Colts’ provincial matches at the venue.

“We are confident the number of events hosted by Willowmoore Park will only grow larger as we continue to improve and thrive under the new era,” added Coulentianos.
