Indigenous languages spelling bee competition a success

“We would like to send our gratitude and are thankful to all our stakeholders who availed themselves for our first indigenous spelling bee competition, which was very successful.”

The founder of Bacha Ba Dichaba Explorers, Thabang Lichaba, has urged children from Daveyton, Etwatwa and surrounding areas to use every opportunity available to hone their communication skills, as it will open doors for them.

Dichaba said this after the inaugural indigenous languages spelling bee competition on September 23 at Rolihlahla Primary School, which he hailed as a success.

“We would like to send our gratitude and are thankful to all our stakeholders who availed themselves for our first indigenous spelling bee competition, which was very successful,” he said.

Betty Monyane, Tumi Kekane, Chris Lekhuleni, Thabang Lichaba (founder of BBDE), Setjhaba Motsoeneng, Phindile Sibiya and Rammie Monyane.

He said his organisation was dedicated to equipping children in the township with the important skills and tools they will need to succeed in life.

“The organisation is invested in making sure it helps the literacy and IQ level of the children in our community. We are dedicated to helping our schools and other organisations by providing support and knowledge about spelling bee, reading, chess and other sporting activities,” he said.

The competition saw learners from several organisations and schools compete, with Sandisile Magubane (11) winning the Isizulu primary schools category while Tshiamo Diale (12) clinched the Sepedi category

Tumelo Marubeng (17) won the isiZulu high schools category.

Dichaba thanked stakeholders including, 100% Foundation, Benoni Department of Education and VumaTel for making the event a success.

The top three in each category was as follows:

Isizulu primary schools

1. Sandisile Magubane – Topodi Primary School
2. Asanda Sibande – Hope Harmony Foundation Centre
3. Thembelihle Sibanyoni – Zamukhanyo Primary School

Sepedi primary schools

1. Tshiamo Diale – Hope Harmony Foundation Centre
2. Ofentse Lubisi – Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School number one
3. Tshegofatso Kakaza – Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School number one

Isizulu high schools

1. Tumelo Marubeng – Phakamani Secondary School
2. Agreement Zweni –Phandimfundo Secondary School
3. Sibusiso Sindane – Phakamani Secondary School
