Art raises money for Rotary

The exhibition was in aid of Rotary projects.

The 13th annual Art Alive exhibition, held in Northmead recently, highlighted the significance of keeping the arts alive.

Over 80 vibrant creatives showcased their art pieces during the four-day event, which attracted scores of people from Benoni, Boksburg and Springs.

The Alive Art School, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, organised the annual event.

The charity square artworks were displayed inside the tent and the centre’s studio because the public could view the paintings until 21:00.

Valinda Lombard was all smiles after selling her artwork, Delicate Beauty, on display at the 13th annual Art Alive exhibition held in Northmead from July 26 to 29.

Attendees enjoyed hearty winter food while socialising around the bonfire.

According to Larry Hyde, part of the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora fundraising team, the charity square artworks and ticket sales raised R23 500.

“All proceeds raised will be used to assist Clean Projects and buy seedlings for our Garden of Life, which feeds about 400 families.”

Art Alive owner, Elaine Marx, said the exhibition was successful because they sold 98 charity squares and 95 paintings. The sales increased from last year’s sale of 91 charity squares and 74 paintings.

“This year’s exhibition was well supported. We were surprised by the many people who came and spent their time with us.”

Marx said the fundraiser was part of their way of giving back to the community and a platform to expose the artists’ work.

Regular exhibitors 14-year-old Maxene Mervits, sculptor Mike Franks and Valinda Lombard were among the artists who went home with smiles after art lovers bought their works.

Rynfield resident and Rotarian Daniela David sold her Phoenix painting, which she said represented a new beginning after she endured hardships.
