With no subscription fees and no adverts, the user-friendly iER mobile app puts access to emergency and non-emergency responders in the palm of your hand.

The iER application, in partnership with Affinity Health, was launched in 2016 and rolled out to CPF patrollers needing real-time assistance.
“It has grown in leaps and bounds and today boasts 300 000 users countrywide with access to 13 000 service providers in all nine provinces,” says National Call Centre Manager, Monique Delport.

What makes this app unique?

• Once downloaded from any app download platform, it is easy to register your profile and update your personal information, including allergies, health conditions, medical cover and emergency contacts.
• The network is available countrywide and when activated operators have real-time access to your phone’s precise GPS location.
• Within 10 seconds of a panic activation, the user will receive a confirmation notification and a SMS, with a case number.
• A call from a trained iER operator will be received to establish the situation, within 30 seconds.
• iER prides itself on the fact that once a panic is received, security personnel, from registered security companies, have already been mobilised and are en route to the user’s location to render additional assistance.
• When the nature of the alert has been established, the police are mobilised or, in the event of a medical emergency, emergency medical service (EMS) responders are dispatched.

   

  

  

  

• Relying on your provided medical information, teams will have access to known allergies and other medical conditions.
• To avoid users being burdened with unexpected medical expenses, service providers are dispatched in line with medical aid requirements and patients will be transported to approved medical facilities.
• iER has service-level agreements with government first responders including the 10111 call centre, EMS, state ambulance services and hospitals. This means that calls for assistance to these entities are answered as priority cases, resulting in faster response times.
• The new silent feature will automatically turn your phone on silent and enable the app’s automatic bot response, which is monitored by operators. Once activated this feature notifies the call centre that the user is in a potentially dangerous situation, such as an active armed robbery, kidnapping or escalating domestic violence situation and cannot speak. Responses using the automated system will enable call-takers to establish what measure of response is needed. This feature also allows for photos and voice recordings to be uploaded and assessed in real time.
• Secondary functions to the app put users in direct contact with other service providers, such as animal welfare organisations, plumbers, electricians, towing services and many more, in the vicinity. Services procured from this function take the hassle out of scouring the internet for service providers near you, but charges incurred remain the user’s responsibility.
• The app has a test feature that can be used at any time to give you peace of mind that you are connected to the iER system.
