Alcohol and drugs were confiscated during the operation.

A joint Operation Okae Molao in Daveyton on April 6 saw several people arrested.

Led by the SAPS acting district commissioner in Ekurhuleni, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, in collaboration with the Department of Community Safety, the CPF and the EMPD, the operation saw 21 illegal immigrants arrested and fines worth about R14 200 issued to motorists.

According to Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Constable Ntando Ngomane, the operation was in two phases – a crime awareness roadshow and a roadblock on Heald Street.

“During the roadshow, residents received pamphlets highlighting the dangers of drugs, information about gender-based violence and safety tips to prevent house robberies. They were encouraged to be vigilant by ensuring their doors get locked at night and during the day and to not park their cars on the pavement or outside the yard at night.

“We also advised residents to report any form of abuse to their nearest police station,” said Ngomane.

At the roadblock, officers conducted a stop-and-search to check if vehicles were roadworthy.

Illegal liquor outlets were closed, and alcohol was confiscated.

Officers from the Daveyton SAPS handed out pamphlets to residents in the area.

“One person was arrested for possession of drugs, four for drug dealing, and we closed two stores for illegal trading of alcohol without a licence,” said Ngomane.
