EMPD Daveyton operation nets 13 suspects

Motorists were found to be over the legal alcohol limit

During the late afternoon in Daveyton, on December 17, the EMPD Bronberg Precinct officers, in conjunction with the SAPS arrested 13 suspects for various crimes.

Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, EMPD spokesperson, said while conducting an operation in Harry Gwala Street, the officers stopped and searched 61 vehicles.

“Nine motorists were found to be over the legal alcohol limit and immediately arrested and three suspects were arrested under the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002) for failing to produce or producing expired documentation.

“While the roadblock was underway, the driver of a grey station wagon made an attempted to drive off after being stopped but officers gave chase and cornered the vehicle, in Heald Street.

“Officers found the suspicious vehicle had been reported stolen at the Benoni Police Station and they arrested the driver, a 34-year-old male,” Thepa said.

All the suspects were detained at the Daveyton police station and are expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court soon.
